A Russian cult classic brand of motorcycle sidecars is making its way into Malaysian soil very soon. The brand is non other than the infamous Ural brand, and a local source reports that the brand will be officially imported and distributed by a local firm called the Reed Motorcycle Company.
The report further indicates that the Kampung Baru-based Reed Motorcycle Company has taken efforts and steps to have the all of Ural’s models type-approved by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). Previously, motorcycles that were imported were basically brought in and approved by model.
The Reed Mototcycle Company has reporMtedly made arrangements with JPJ for testing and approval of all Ural models, which will lead towards the Ural brand at becoming the first passenger sidecar motorcycle of its kind approved for import into the Malaysia market.
Reed Motorcycle Company’s managing director, Mohammed Nik Faisullah, was cited in the report for expressing his confidence in distributing the unique genre of motorcycles. The firm is looking to cater to the increasing number of overland travel lifestyle fans amongst local Malaysian bikers.
Another leading member of the Reed Motorcycle Company named Fadil Ali further added that the company has already received queries for the sidecar brand and whether it will organise overland trips exclusively for Ural owners. Perhaps the latter may be just a matter of time depending on how fast it gets all of Ural’s models through the JPJ type-approval process.
No arrival date was mentioned or reported, but an official announcement will likely be made through the Reed Motorcycle Company’s official Facebook page when it does. With a massive worldwide cult following, the arrival of Ural in Malaysia will surely please a number of its enthusiasts here as well.
