Former national Moto3 rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin will continue racing in 2016, this time in the World Supersport Championship series instead. Zulfahmi’s switch to WSSP this year was announced by the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) during its recent Appreciation Night where it also revealed its 2016 racing calendar.
Zulfahmi will compete in WSSP with a Spanish racing outfit called Orelac Racing. SIC’s CEO Datuk Razlan Razali also highlighted that the circuit has continued its support of the national rider in his new endeavour. SIC has signed up as a sponsor for his new Spanish team whilst Drive M7 SIC Moto3 team manager Johan ‘Stiggy’ Stigefelt has been retained as Zulfahmi’s coach as well.
With the presence of a full-time national rider in the WSSP category, which is the support category to the World Superbikes Championship (WSBK), SIC is expecting a greater spectator turnout for the latter event’s scheduled third outing in Malaysia this year. The Malaysian round of the Motul FIM WSBK 2016 will be held from May 13 to May 15, making the circuit’s first major event to be hosted following its planned temporary closure for mandatory resurfacing and upgrade works.
To further entice fans for this year’s WSBK race in Malaysia, SIC also announced special ‘Super Early-Bird’ ticket promotions for the event as well, offering significant discounts for fans.
The promotion lasts until March 31st and currently offers WSBK Grandstand tickets priced at RM47.70, whilst paddock access is priced at RM197.16. Additionally, both are being packaged together at RM228.96 as well.
Furthermore, Zulfahmi fans can also opt for a specially organised ‘Fahmi 63 Tribune’ tickets priced at RM79.50 during this promotion. Full ticketing details can be viewed online at the Sepang Circuit’s official website.
